Getting Your Home Ready for a Hurricane
If you plan to put up your own hurricane shutters:
- Watch the hurricane shutter installation video now.
- It’s hard, hot, heavy work just prior to a hurricane. Is it within your capabilities? If not, find an installer.
- Ideally, have at least 2 people, plus a step ladder.
- Mark hurricane shutters to match windows and doors they cover.
- Check you have all required fittings. Order extra anchors, screws, wingnuts, and drill bits (Philips #3, slot wingnut) in case they get dropped or lost.
- Check electric drill. Get a spare rechargeable battery.
- Get heavy duty work gloves to protect against cuts.
