“Forecasters believe that the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane season will be one of the most active seasons ever,” said Del Webb CERT President Howard Malis. “This Del Webb Lakewood Ranch CERT team drill helps us review our plans in the event of a storm approaching our community, or some other disaster occurring.”

“The training also allows us to review communication procedures and practice search and rescue techniques,” said Del Webb CERT member Chuck Kennedy.

“We moved from Activation Level 6 (Training) to Activation Level 5 (Awareness) on June 1,” Malis continued. “We keep honing our skills in preparation for serving our community if and when needed.”

Malis urges additional Del Webb Lakewood Ranch residents to consider becoming a member of CERT – especially now that our community is fully built out. CERT Basic Skills Training is free, with the next training classes scheduled for October. “Your CERT team also meets on the third Thursday of each month in the Oasis AR3 and all residents are always welcome to attend.”
